Dying Nation
Population of Ukraine is steadily decreasing since proclaiming independence In 1991 Ukraine population estimated almost 52 million people. I even remember TV commercials: “There are 52 M of us :-)”. Independence gave the ability for people to travel and a lot of families left to Western European countries, US, Canada or even Russia seeking for better life.
A lot of Ukrainian women are working particularly in Italy or Spain looking after old people and great ammont of male population left to building construction work in Russia, Chech Republic, Spain or Portugal. As a result a lot of families stayed separated by borders and connected only by regular Western Union transactions, phoe calls and occasional annualy meetings.
According to various sources thare are approximately 6-8 million Ukrainians, excluding old diaspora, living abroad at the moment.
By predictions of some demographic scientists by 2050 populatin of Ukraine will estimate around 30 million people. Sad, isn’t it?
