Transportation in Ukraine Cities guide
Many foreign visitors find it tricky to get around Ukrainian metropolises. Why? Lack of English language signs (or absence at all in most cases); Crasy mashutkas stop for a second and then drive away, so there is even no time to figure out where does is go etc.
So let’s figure out how a foreign tourist without knowing any Ukrainian or Russian can handle transportation in large Ukrainian cities.
You can plan much in advance, ask your friends or look in forums. If you’re going to a famous landmark there will be guidelines on-line. Anyway each time before going somewhere you have to spend a lot of time for transport research only. Finaly you lose more time on figuring out how to get to a certain place than actually being there.
Of course you can take a taxi each time you get out of your hostel, apartment or hotel but there is one more pretty easy and conveniet “do it yourself” option 🙂
Eway.in.ua is a newly developed free service to find your way in bustling city transport system of Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk. It is designed for the needs of upcoming Euro-2012 football champ. Even locals use it to get aroud their native city.
To find your way simply put arrows on your location and desired destination. You can also type in the exact address. Program desings a route offering a few options. It displays which bus, tram, metro or other type of transport should you take, transfer points (if needed), how much will it cost and approximate travel time. Buy tickets from the driver 😉
Check it out and play a little bit before getting out on a street.
Have fun and enjoy your transportation in Ukraine cities.
